So today it's raining, so no unless I can sneak something in between the clouds, I probably won't be going anywhere... making it a perfect time to review North Point State Park.
When we arrived (after paying the $4-6 entry fee... I can't remember exactly) we went straight down the short pier right off the parking lot. To the left there was a shoreline that was not very deep, and to the right a beach, followed by a rather long pier. I wanted to get out to the end of that, but ultimately there wasn't enough time.
On the pier to our left were two "old timers" (I say that with all due respect), that were using pieces of small fish as bait, and hauling in foot-long catfish, followed by an approximately 16 inch catfish. They also caught about an 8 inch bluefish as well. How? The guy doing the majority of the catching had a 6 foot pole (Ugly Stick) with a decent reel (I didn't see the type). At the end he had a metal... not sure what it's called, but it had a decently heavy weight attached to the bottom of a metal line, with a few perpendicular metal wires extended out with bait attached.
Eric and his daughter Lilly had bobbers about a foot up off a hook, with worms at the end. Almost instantly Lilly caught a little fish, and they managed to catch a few other small fish, maybe 3. I'm not quite sure what types they were.
The water as a whole was choppy and brown. I don't think that there was much visibility in the water, so I simply assumed to use slightly brighter plastic stuff. That didn't work. Then I went with a small plastic worm, and that didn't really work much either. I'm not sure what my deal was, but the fish certainly did like the real bait. It was a slightly windy day (or was when we got to the water at least), so casting was difficult.
I stink, so I didn't get any pictures other than of the fish, but I'll go back later and get some more. Photos coming a little later.

Trip today to North Point State Park
Going on a fishing trip today, to North Point State Park with other beginners Alissa, Eric, and his daughter Lily. More information when we return.
First Post
Hey there.
This blog is intended to help others do what I am trying to do... learn to fish in the state of Maryland (and or fish in general). I'm yet another person who went out with my dad when I was a kid, but that was about it. Now I'm trying to pick up a new hobby, while ultimately becoming a more successful fisherman (person). This blog will be written by myself (Eddie) any other friends I can get out fishing with me.
That's the goal... welcome beginning fisherman, fisherwomen, and fisherkids!
